The Humorous Speech Contest and Table Topics Speech Contest.

Our club contests were held on 18 August 2011 with 5 toastmasters participating in each contest making it an exciting and entertaining evening.   The Humorous Speech Contest was won by Angela Guptill (ACS/CL) and Table Topics was won by Steve Pedersen (ACS).  Congratulations on your efforts.

We would like to thank all visiting Toastmasters who helped with judging, timing, tally counters and sergeant at arms. We appreciate your support.  Congratulations to our Nicki Jensen (ACB) for being a fantastic first time contest chair.  The contests were well organized and ran very smoothly.

Awards Night

On the 13 July we held our mid winter dinner and awards night at Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club.
We had a large party including two guests to enjoy the scrumptious a la carte menu.
The food was beautiful and plentiful and was enjoyed by all.

Then it was time honor the award winners.  The prestigious Outstanding Toastmaster Award was won by Robert Davies (ACB/ALS) for his significant achievements including obtaining his Advanced Communicator Bronze Award and Advanced Leader Silver.  He won both our Humorous Speech Contest and International Speech Contest and also represented our club at three Area Speech Contests. He also participated in many other Division A and District events.  We have nominated Robert for both the Division A and District 72 (NZ) Toastmaster of the Year.

The other awards won were Hansa Naran (CC) for Most Improved Toastmaster and Christine MacBrayne for most Entertaining Speaker.

Birthday Celebration

At our meeting on the 27 May we celebrated our nineteen birthday!  It was a gala evening where we had plenty of time to mix and mingle.

Newsflash
Our Kerry Davies (ALB/CL) wins Area A7 Evaluation  Speech Contest at the Papakura RSA on 19 March.  Congratulations Kerry for an outstanding effort against strong opposition.  You gave a very polished performance!

Kerry went on to represent our Area at the Division A Evaluation Speech Contest at the Fickling Centre, Three Kings on 2 April where she encountered seven particularly strong competitors.  She performed extremely well but sadly was unplaced.  Kerry was very positive about her performance and felt she had learned a lot that will benefit her in the future.

Toastmasters Week.
On the 3 March in conjunction with world wide event "Toastmasters Week" we held a special Wine and Cheese Meeting.  Many invited visitors attended to learn about Toastmasters.

They enjoyed three  prepared speeches; Kerry giving an interpretive reading from Romeo and Juliet, guest speaker Lance Clark (DTM) an informative speech "The WASA" and finally Dennis gave an entertaining speech "Am I losing my mind?".

After an extended supper Robert lead the table topics session when we heard many entertaining stories.  Several guests took the opportunity to participate.  A real fun experience.

The highlights of the evening was one guest joining the club and Kerry completing her second advanced manual to achieve her Advanced Communicator Bronze.  What a memorable night!

The International Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest.

We held our club contests on the 17 February.  Kerry won the Evaluation Contest and Robert won the International Speech contest. Congratulations to you both, your results were well deserved.

Our contests were extremely well organized and run by first time contest chair Hansa. Congratulations Hansa for your fine efforts organizing this event.  We would like to thank all our guest Toastmasters who helped with judging our contests.

Kerry and Robert will now represent us at the Area A7 Contests to be held on the 19 March at Papakura RSA.

During general business with our entire club present we voted unanimously to change our club name to Manurewa T.A.L.K. Toastmasters.

New Year BBQ
On the 20 January we held our first club meeting for the year.  For a change we had a BBQ where club members mixed and mingled enjoying awesome food and fine wine.  Although it was a low key meeting we still found time for two prepared speeches, including a very passionate speech about football refereeing from our guest Steve Budai.  And of course we had a very lively table topics session.

Halloween Meeting.

On 28 October we enjoyed a Halloween themed meeting when most members came in costume as witches, Count Dracula or scary monsters.  Splendid!  Best costume was Kerry as Frankenstein!

Count Dracula and bride

The meeting was enhanced by two themed speeches.  First Nicki completed project 4, Conduct a Press Conference from the advanced manual Communicating on Television.  Her speech was a press conference about a product recall for faulty vampire teeth.  A delightful idea for Halloween.

And then Angela completed project 4, The Play from the advanced manual Interpretive Reading.
Angela chose to present Act 4 from Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth.  This scene includes the dialogue by three witches.  Angela in costume gave a stunning performance.

After a body parts supper we enjoyed Maree's Halloween themed table topics.  (Impromptu speaking practice).  Congratulations to all who participated.

The Great Southern Debate.

On the 21 October to celebrate Toastmasters International 86th birthday we held a debate meeting with Papakura Toastmasters at the Papakura RSA.  Before the meeting we enjoyed a delightful buffet meal and drinks.

After the meal we enjoyed a lively debate between the two clubs.  This was won by the negative team consisting of Lyndon Baird, Steve Budai and Chris Williams from Papakura Toastmasters.
Well done guys!

T.A.L.K Toastmasters were well represented in the debate by Steve, Julie and Kerry.

Dignitaries in attendance were Alun Chisholm (Immediate Past District 72 Governor), Marlene Krone (Division A Governor) and Janet Smith (Area A7 Governor).

We would like to thank all the guests that attended.
